Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho hailed Diogo Dalot after his ‘fantastic’ full Premier League debut against Arsenal at Old Trafford.

The 19-year-old has struggled with injury since completing a £19million move to Old Trafford and was making his first league start against the Gunners after coming on as a sub against Southampton on Saturday.

The right-back was part of a makeshift back five but impressed as United battled back to earn a 2-2 draw.

Dalot was clearly struggling in the final minutes with fatigue but Mourinho was quick to praise the youngster and says the club have their next right-back for next decade.

Dalot was injured when he came to the club but Mourinho says he had no doubts about his quality: ‘I knew it. [Dalot] Came with a surgery and then when he was coming back he went to the national team and he played two matches in three days, had a problem again but I think Manchester United has a right-back for the next 10 years.

‘The kid Diogo, fantastic. Gary Neville must be thinking now Manchester United has a right-back for 10 years, a very good right-back for 10 years.’

United face Claudio Ranieri’s Fulham at Old Trafford on Saturday before a daunting trip to Anfield to play rivals Liverpool.

The Red Devils are eight points outside the top four.
